Ancestry Add to Tree AutoClick extension for Firefox

The Ancestry Add to Tree Auto-Clicker is a lightweight extension for Firefox that streamlines the process of adding new individuals to your Ancestry family trees. With just one click, it automatically selects all checkboxes linked to parents, spouses, and children. Note that it does not select the checkboxes for the factual details below each person, as these should be manually verified.

I find this tool incredibly helpful, especially when constructing trees for genetic genealogy as well as traditional family history research. Follow the guide below to add the Ancestry Add to Tree Auto-Clicker to your Firefox browser.

Part 1: Installing the Extension
  1. Open Firefox: Ensure you are using the Firefox browser on your computer.
  2. Visit the Firefox Add-ons Store: The Ancestry Add to Tree Auto-Clicker can be added via the Firefox Add-ons Store at this link: Ancestry Add to Tree Auto-Clicker. Alternatively, you can click the menu button (three horizontal lines), select “Add-ons and themes,” and search for “Ancestry Add to Tree Auto-Clicker.”
  3. Add the Extension:
    • On the extension page, click the “Add to Firefox” button.
    • A pop-up window will appear asking for confirmation. Click “Add.”
  4. Verify Installation:
    • Once installed, you will see the Ancestry Add To Tree Auto-Clicker icon in your Firefox toolbar, represented by a green box with a checkmark. You can pin the extension by right-clicking the toolbar icon and selecting “Pin to Toolbar.”
Part 2: Using the Extension
  1. Open the Ancestry Website: Log in to your Ancestry account and navigate to the page of the person you want to add to your tree.
  2. Navigate to Tools:
    • Click on the “Tools” menu on the page.
    • Select “Save to Tree.”
  3. Find the Person in Your Tree:
    • In the pop-up window, type the name of the person to find their entry in your tree.
    • Select the matching person from the list.
  4. View Addable People:
    • A list will appear showing all the people you can add to your tree, including existing and new individuals.
  5. Auto-Select People:
    • Instead of manually selecting each person, click on the Ancestry Add To Tree Auto-Clicker icon in your Firefox toolbar.
    • Clicking the green checkmark will automatically select all the people attached to the entry. Clicking it again will unselect all.
  6. Add to Your Tree:
    • After selecting all of the people on the page, click the “Save to Tree” button at the bottom of the page to add them to your tree.
    • All the selected individuals will be added with a single click.
