Autofill names from the Ancestry image viewer to the save pop-up

When I am building out trees for family and clients I am regularly saving hundred of records within a short period. In an effort to save some time and make life easier, I developed a tool which copies the name of the person attached to the record you were viewing and autofills that name into the appropriate box in the “Save to tree” pop-up dialog.

When you activate Ancestry Image Records Name Autofill, as soon as you click the “Save to tree” button in the Ancestry image viewer, it will automatically add the name of the person selected on the record to the appropriate box within the pop-up window.

Highlight DNA Matches over 25cM on MyHeritage

MyHeritage is a great tool to identify DNA matches beyond Ancestry, however the ways you can filter through your matches are not quite as advanced. On Ancestry, you can set a minimum amount of shared cM for your displayed matches, which helps a lot when sorting by your most recent DNA connections.

This minimum shared cM filter does not exist on MyHeritage so I created a custom tool which makes the cM count appear larger than normal, as well as making the cM count red if the amount is over 25cM. This makes finding substantial connections much easier at a glance and saves time searching for new solid matches.

When you activate MyHeritage Highlight DNA Matches 25cM+, When activated, all shared cM counts on MyHeritage will appear larger, and...

Remove unneeded items from Ancestry trees for better screenshots

Many times I share screenshots of Ancestry trees with family and clients. The Ancestry interface is great for doing work, but when taking a screenshot I don’t always want the user-interface items to appear. I created a custom tool that eliminates many unnecessary buttons on the Ancestry tree interface so you can take cleaner screenshots.

When you activate Ancestry Tree Cleaner, any family tree you are viewing will have a cleaner look for user-friendly screenshotting. Simply de-activate the style when done screenshotting your tree to view the user-interface again.

Get a cleaner look for screenshots on Ancestry’s ThruLines

I am often taking screenshots of Ancestry’s ThruLines page to share with family and clients. While I like the layout, some of the elements on the page are distracting and not needed in my images. I developed a custom tool which makes the layout a little cleaner and more appropriate for sharing with others.

When you activate Ancestry ThruLines Cleaner, any ThruLines you are viewing will have cleaner lines and larger user photos, so we can see our matches better. Simply de-activate the style when done screenshotting your ThruLines to return to the normal clickable web interface.

Give the Ancestry interface a darker look and feel

In April of 2023 Ancestry modified their website to make the menu bar a bright white colour, as well as generally lightening up the entire interface. I prefer a slightly more subdued look to the site with the original black menu bar, so created a tool which adds a darker look to the Ancestry user interface. This changes the look and feel to something a little easier on the eyes for extended periods.

When you activate Ancestry Darker Styled Look and Feel, all Ancestry pages will be automatically be loaded with a darker, easier on the eyes colour palette.

Ancestry Save to Tree Name Autofill

While building out family trees, particularly for mapping DNA matches, I am often saving hundreds of people from other trees to my own. This tool automatically takes the persons name whose details your viewing and auto-populates it into the “Person in tree” field of the “Save to tree” form. It saves quite a bit of copying and pasting and makes things much more efficient. This tool now also bypasses the “Heads up!” warning pop-up when no trees are attached to a source.

When you activate Ancestry Save to Tree Name Autofill, as soon as you click the “Save to tree” button on a persons details page it will automatically add their name to the appropriate box within the pop-up window.

Auto-load shared matches on AncestryDNA

When building networks of DNA matches using AncestryDNA, I am often loading the profile of dozens of matches at a time, and hundreds of matches every hour. Always looking for ways to save a few clicks, a.k.a. time, I made a tool that automatically loads the “Shared Matches” section of an AncestryDNA matches’ profile when opening it in a new tab.

When you activate Ancestry Auto-Load Shared Matches Tab, clicking a users profile on AncestryDNA will auto-load the Shared Matches section or the Matches of Matches section if you have Ancestry Pro-Tools.
