Getting Started with Genealogy Assistant

Installing Genealogy Assistant for Google Chrome and Setting Up a Free 7-Day Trial
  1. Find Genealogy Assistant in the Chrome Web Store
    Click here to view Genealogy Assistant in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Add Genealogy Assistant to Chrome
    On the Chrome Web Store page for Genealogy Assistant, click the blue Add to Chrome button. A confirmation popup will appear—click Add Extension to complete the installation.
  3. Confirm Installation
    Once the extension is installed, a new Welcome to Genealogy Assistant page will open automatically. This page provides an overview of the extension’s features and next steps.
  4. Enable the Extension in Chrome’s Toolbar
    Locate the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome menu bar (to the right of the address bar). Click it, then find Genealogy Assistant in the list and click the pin icon. This will ensure that the Genealogy Assistant icon remains visible in your toolbar for easy access.
  5. Start Your Free Trial
    Click the Genealogy Assistant icon in the Chrome toolbar. You’ll be prompted to enter your email address. After entering your email, click Start Trial.
  6. Confirm Your Email
    Check your email inbox for a confirmation message from Genealogy Assistant. Open the email and click the confirmation link to activate your free 7-day trial. If you don’t receive the email, check your spam or junk folder.
  7. Access the Features
    Once your trial is activated, click the Genealogy Assistant icon again to view its interface and start exploring the available tools.
How the Genealogy Assistant Interface Works
  1. Accessing the Interface
    The Genealogy Assistant interface is opened by clicking the extension’s icon in the Chrome toolbar. This displays a panel containing all the features and tools available.
  2. Feature Categories
    Features are organized into categories:
    • Ancestry Research Tools
    • Ancestry DNA Tools
    • MyHeritage DNA Tools
    • FamilySearch & More
  3. Enabling and Disabling Features
    Each feature has a checkbox next to it. Simply check the box to enable a feature or uncheck it to disable it. Once enabled, the feature remains active across the relevant website until you disable it.
  4. Understanding Features
    To learn more about a specific feature, hover over the i (information) icon next to its name. This will display a description of what the feature does and how it enhances your research.
  5. Customizing Features
    Some features are customizable. Look for the Edit (pen and paper) icon next to the feature name. Clicking this will open a settings panel where you can adjust the feature to fit your preferences or workflow.
  6. Persistent Settings
    Any features you enable or customize will remain active even after you close the browser, ensuring they are ready to use the next time you visit the relevant genealogy website.
